Like smartphones, laptops are also becoming an essential part of people’s lives no matter which level of the profession and the educational grade they belong to.

The world is rapidly shifting towards the virtual domain instead of the physical because it has been proved that we can do more tasks in the virtual domain rather than in the physical world no matter how far we are from the actual place. Online business, Online education, and Online Banking are the best-suited example of this.

Laptops are a highly in-demand accessory of today, that helps people to accomplish their day-to-day tasks. Covid-19, breakout changed the entire phenomenon by compelling them to stay at home but for how long. To play around the world and for the survival of their family idea entirely changed the concept of business to do from home. In this situation, the accessory that was most in demand observed the Laptop.

Everyone is very much curious about the selection and buying a Laptop. It is easy for the tech guys who are well aware of its specifications and their need. Students and professionals who don’t have good knowledge about laptops’ technical aspects should need to update their knowledge before buying their dream laptop.

This blog post will let you know how to choose a good laptop for your use according to your workloads and professional requirement. Some major laptop brands are Apple, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, and the list goes on. Before buying a laptop which brand you go for, you must consider 5 more important factors that help you to select a very good laptop. These include Usage, specification, size and display, available ports, and most significantly the budget. These are the main points that one should consider to buy a laptop for his use.

1. Laptop Usage:

The usage or the purpose for that you are going to buy a laptop is the top consideration. Developers, or users, running highly sophisticated applications in their office can not be compared with those who are using the laptop for doing online business, online education, or using normal work. Developers, students in higher grades related to IT or Engineering fields, or those who require to run large applications are recommended to buy a laptop with higher specifications. Students from lower grades or individuals who are using the laptop for their routine work, online business, or personal uses are not recommended to spend a lot on expensive laptops.

2. Specification:

Laptop specs or Specification is a term used to explain what to look for when buying a laptop. What are the high or low-specification laptops? The specification refers to hardware components that jointly build the laptop itself. These components include CPU, RAM, Storage, GPU, Graphics Card, available Ports, and the Camera.

    1.  CPU (Central Processing Unit)

The CPU is considered the brain of a laptop, how quickly it can accomplish the task is based on clock speed and CPU Core. However, clock speed and the CPU core are two separate components but work together to achieve the same goal of fast computing. Leading CPU manufacturers are Intel, AMD, and others. Intel is the leader of all CPU or microprocessor vendors it has the following series core i3, core i5, core i7, core i9, and the more advanced version is core-x series processors. Higher the series higher the CPU performance. AMD has its Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, Ryzen 9, and Threadripper lines. It is recommended that if you want a quality computing experience go for the Intel processor.

           a)  CPU Core:

CPU Core is a separate processing unit inside the CPU that receives a single job to accomplish individually and rapidly with a clock speed and transfer to the RAM. CPU with multi-core units enable the ability to run multiple programs and request multiple tasks, such as editing a document while watching a video and opening a new program.

          b)  CPU Clock Speed:

The CPU clock speed determines how quickly the CPU can perform its task. The clock speed is measured in Giga Hartz denoted as (GHz). In simple higher the GHz, the higher the clock speed.

Therefore it is recommended while buying the laptop next time you must consider the CPU Clock Speed and the CPU  Core. A higher CPU Core and the CPU Clock processor will result in fast computing.

    2.   Random Access Memory (RAM)

Whatever instructions are moving to the CPU before or after processing stays in the RAM or the main memory. It is temporary storage measured in Giga Bytes (GBs) that holds the instructions before going to the CPU for processing or after processing. Therefore higher the memory space of the laptop allows multiple programs to run simultaneously. Memory is the place where all information resides when the laptop is switched on till it is switched off. SDRAM (Single Dynamic RAM) and DDR (Double Data Rate) are the types of RAM. SDRAM is a term that commonly refers to first generation Synchronous DRAM, which is slower than subsequent generations (DDR) because only one word of knowledge is transmitted per clock cycle (single data rate). Contrary to that the DDR interface accomplishes this by reading and writing data on the rising and falling edges of the clock signal.

A laptop with high performance is a mixture of a high-performance CPU and excessive memory space. 8GB is good for the standard user and 16 GB is ideal for professionals use.

    3.     GPU

The graphics processing unit, or GPU, has emerged as one of the most important types of computing technology for both personal and commercial applications. The GPU is used in a variety of applications, including graphics and video rendering. Despite their popularity in gaming, GPUs are increasingly being used in creative production and artificial intelligence (AI). GPUs were originally intended to speed up 3D graphics rendering. Over time, they became more adaptable and programmable, expanding their capabilities. Graphics programmers were able to create more interesting visual effects and realistic scenes using advanced lighting and shadowing techniques.

3.    Laptop Size and Display:

Laptops are available in different sizes such as 11’’, 14’’, 15.6’’, and 17.3’’ inches. The size is all about how portable you need your laptop to be. If you spend most of your time traveling in connection with your business, place of work, or educational institute it is good to choose an 11 or 14-inch laptop. If you are a graphics designer or video editing job, a larger size laptop may work better for you. Portability and nature of work will help you to decide which type of laptop will suit you.

A laptop display is composed of several parts. To begin, consider the resolution you want, such as HD, Full HD, 3K, or 4K. The smallest unit of a digital image or graphic that can be displayed and represented on a digital display device is a pixel. Higher pixel results in greater image quality. Following that are the brightness and color accuracy. IPS display panels will be extremely useful to graphic designers. If you want the best possible picture quality, consider an OLED display. Examine the refresh rate next. Anything above 120Hz is ideal for gamers, while anything below 60Hz is ideal for designers.

4.    Available Ports:

Ports enable you to connect multiple devices and accessories to your laptop for data transfer. To quickly connect thumb drives and your mobile phone, you’ll need a couple of USB A ports and a USB C port.

Furthermore, if you want to connect to the Internet directly via Ethernet cable, make sure your laptop has an Ethernet port.

5.     Budget:

Finally, How much you have or want to invest to buy your laptop is the significant consideration that needs to ponder. It is always good to buy a laptop under your budget otherwise go for the used laptop with good specifications. Please ensure the laptop that you are going to buy is not repaired. Ensure all the hardware should be in perfect condition, with maximum battery backup.
